Meet the Admin Team

Principal, Ged O'Donnell

Gerald (Ged) O’Donnell started as principal of Grimsley High on July 16, 2018. O’Donnell has been principal at Kiser Middle since 2015, and also served as principal at Montlieu Academy of Technology. While there he was named GCS Principal of the Year in 2013. He also served as an assistant principal at Northeast High and as a teacher, curriculum facilitator and Title I coordinator at Bessemer Elementary. He holds degrees from UNCG and Leeds University in England.

Assistant Principal, Alex Ingram

Alex Ingram is a first year school administrator.  He has been an educator for 14 years in positions ranging from teacher to testing coordinator.  He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Fayetteville State University and will graduate in May 2019 with a Masters in Executive Leadership at Gardner-Webb University. He is married and a father of four children. 

Assistant Principal, Amanda Sands-Warren

Mrs. Sands-Warren is serving Grimsley High School as an Assistant Principal.  Mrs. Sands-Warren previously served as an administrator in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, Orange County Schools and various other roles in Guilford County Schools.  She graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (AGGIE PRIDE!) with a bachelor’s degree  in English and a Master’s degree in School Administration.  “I am honored to serve the students, staff and community of Grimsley High School-GO WHIRLIES!”

Assistant Principal, Amanda Stone

Mrs. Amanda Stone graduated from North Carolina A&T State University with a bachelor’s degree is Secondary Math Education in 2006.  From 2012 to 2016, she taught Math at Grimsley High School.  In 2016, she was selected for the North Carolina Principal Fellows program and obtained a degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  She has previously served as a school administrator at both the Elementary and Middle school levels but is excited to return to Grimsley in a new role.  GO WHIRLIES!

Assistant Principal, Sonja Collins

Sonja Collins brings over 20 years of experience in education, having served as a teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal. She holds a Master’s Degree in School Administration and Supervision from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, a Master’s Degree in Administration from Audrey Cohen College, and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership with a focus on Curriculum Development. Her leadership journey includes serving as a school administrator at a Charlotte-based high school specializing in dropout prevention and credit recovery. Ms. Collins is deeply committed to empowering educators and fostering collaborative classroom environments that spark curiosity and drive student achievement. She’s thrilled to be a part of Grimsley High School’s mission to prepare students for lifelong success. GO WHIRLIES!
